is proud to announce:
The doctor is in

Read Aloud 15 MINUTES and its more than 10,000 partners in all 50 states are pleased to welcome Dr. John S. Hutton, a pediatrician and clinical research fellow at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, as the National Campaign’s “SpokesDoctor,” adding his knowledge, expertise, passion and voice to spread the urgent message: Read Aloud 15 MINUTES. Every child. Every parent. Every day.
Dr. John S. Hutton

Read Aloud is sharing Dr. Hutton's knowledge and expertise on a dedicated webpage featuring a meet Dr. Hutton video; "Dr. Hutton Says" facts and prescriptions; and an opportunity to "Ask Dr. Hutton" questions.

In an era of exciting breakthroughs in early childhood brain research, Dr. Hutton will help Read Aloud 15 MINUTES and its partners shape parents’ and primary caregivers’ understanding of how to promote healthy brain development at every stage, and how to foster the language and reading skills necessary for lifelong learning success.
“SpokesDoctor” is just one of Dr. Hutton’s many roles, all of which align around reading aloud. He is a pediatrician and a researcher, who — with his colleagues at the Reading and Literacy Discovery Center — uses cutting edge tools such as MRI to explore how home reading environment and read aloud interventions during early childhood help build critical brain networks.  He is also a children’s book author, whose “Baby Unplugged” and “Love Baby Healthy” book series have been distributed to more than 1 million families nationwide. And he is the owner of the award-winning blue manatee children’s bookstore in Cincinnati.  Each of these roles is inspired by his experience as a father of three, fueling deep passion for reading aloud and “analog” childhood — the kind with limited screen time and lots of human engagement and free play.
As “SpokesDoctor,” Dr. Hutton plans to add his voice to the growing chorus of experts touting the importance of reading aloud — including the American Academy of Pediatrics, which in 2014 added a recommendation that all parents read aloud from birth.  “We are entering an exciting new era where we know more than we ever have about how something so simple as reading aloud for 15 minutes by a loving parent to a child can change their brain for a lifetime,” Dr. Hutton says.
